These yarns are divided into single, ply, cord and rope yarns. Single yarn is the simplest type of yarn commonly produced by twisting together staple or filament fibers. Ply yarns are produced by twisting two or more single yarns. Cord yarns are produced by twisting two or more ply yarns. Rope yarns are produced by twisting two or more cord yarns.
Novelty yarns are sometimes referred to as complex yarns. A yarn which makes a fabric is not always smooth and uniform. Complex yarns are the uneven yarns which may be thick and thin or have curls, loops, twists and even differently colored areas along their length. This look of the yarns are used to add interesting effects in fabrics.

Textured yarns are made of fully drawn filament fibers, or much referred as artificial fibers, with a changed surface, shape and textured developed by using new spinning techniques. Textured yarns are more opaque; improve look and touch, and boost warmness and absorbency. Nylon and polyester are the main two fibers that are textured. Nylon fibers are a category of nylon and can be used for creating fabrics, carpets, ropes, and even the strings of the musical instruments. The polyester fiber fills are being used extensively in the manufacturing and stuffing of cushions, pillows, and comforters.
The difference between nylon and polyester is that when fabrics are made from nylon and polyester, the natural feel is more in the nylon dress. But polyester fabrics have some advantages like the durability and wrinkle resistance capability over nylon. Compared to polyester, nylon has very good resistance to abrasion, fungi, insects, chemicals, and even mildew. If polyester shrinks on heating, nylon just melts and it catches fire sooner than polyesters.
The yarns count is the number of hanks of yarn. In counting system, we count how many lengths called a hank, weigh 1 pound. Thus if there are 10 hanks of cotton yarn that weigh one pound, this is to 10 yards. Each of hanks is 840 yards long, so the length of the yarn is 8,400 yards. So, if it’s a coarser yarn it will take fewer hanks, and less length to make up a pound. And the higher the number, the finer the yarn.
